SC head Light question
I have always liked the original sugar scoop sealed beam light look on the sc. but the light is not very good and age is only making it harder to drive at night. I am considering new sealed beams and I have seen some 7 inch lights which are set up to use led light bulbs. Has anyone tried to use a set of these on 78-89 911. Any info appreciated. Thanks

You can get a drop in with an H4 bulb. You'll need the special relay as well. It's quite bright that way.
No experience with the LED version. |

If you like the sugar scoop headlights the best way is to replace the sealed beams with a good set of 7" LED inserts. I don't sell them any more, but they are still available from other companies. Search for 7" LED headlights A0101. They use them in motorcycles.
There are cheaper stuff out there but they are not as good. This is what light you will have, low beam High beam Don't do H4 and put LED bulbs in there, they don't work with the reflectors and lenses, and send the light everywhere and you will blind oncoming traffic. Here is what the LED inserts look like installed in sugar scoops I also always recommend to install a relay kit regardless. Cheers Engelbert

Sorry. I should have been more clear. What I dropped in was lenses and bulbs. So I guess the pattern was good to not shine in people's eyes. I took them out and put in the Euro version with painted rings. I moved those to my 944 which hasn't seen darkness in years.

I have a set of H4 housings and bulbs from my 914, I'm going LED since I have pop-ups and it doesn't matter what they look like when they are down.
Let me know if you're interested. They look like normal 7" headlights. I'd put a relay in to be safe though.

These are the good ones. There are a lot cheap copies out there. Make sure they have the DOT mark on the lens.

Great thanks. Will do some research. All the help appreciated.
Jim thanks I think the h4 s have the different ring and I want to keep the original scoop lights. I actually have a set of H4s also but holding them in case this doesn’t work out.
