No way - they would definitely buy the car for $500 though

Our team was accepted in our E28 BMW 535i. Needs a bunch of work before June. Where are you guys going to get your cages done? Piper is out of the budget.

Looks like ARC Racing out here in Winchester (Roy Anderson) is going to do our car. He does mostly dirt track cars, but has done a number of "Summit Point Cars" as he calls them. His work look pretty good - not perfection, but good enough for Lemons.

He quoted us "about $1000" for a basic SCCA legal cage. Nothing fancy, but it should have all the required elements. I'll post his number if I can find it - I usually just stop by his house right off Rt. 50 just west of Winchester. The area is called Round Hill, but it has a Winchester address.

You should look into the availability of a bolt-in cage kit, like Autopower. That was one of the reasons we opted for the RX7; readily available kits. Found a used bolt-in cage for $400 shipped.

A non-often-tracked model does present a challenge for installing a cage. In those cases, I would suggest simply cutting off the roof to facilitate.

There is a racing supplier down in Lynchburg that sells pre-fabbed cages in various sizes. They are mostly for Detroit steel, but they seem to have a variety of sizes. They are supposed to be ready to install.

(They have a really cool website logo also!!!)

We actually got our RX7 project running last weekend. Interior is gutted, the used Autopower cage kit is installed (what a friggin' puzzle....), and we finally figured out a way to install the Kirkey seat I have so that it clears the cage, and even works on the slider. Also removed the "Rats Nest"; which was Mazda's cluster-f of wires and vacuum lines which unsuccessfuly mitigated its emissions output. Fortunately, not an issue for a track-only car. We even took it for test drive around the neighborhood. Of course, the exhaust terminating at where the cat should be didn't impress the neighbors.

Looking forward to seeing all the madness that is LeMons!
