What are your plans for the car when done?

Here is what happen when you not pay attention what is installed in a car you buy.
I removed the brake components to be rebuilt or replaced. I decided to get new rotors, and since this is a 84 Carrera, I ordered Carrera rotor front and rear. I also ordered rebuild kits for the brake calipers. Once I had them all cleaned blasted baked, cleaned again, and powder coated, I started to assemble them with the new seals and dust covers. The front were no issue and all went well. However, the rear seals were to large. OK, I got the wrong kit. Then I learned that the Carrera has 42mm piston and the SC has 38mm piston. WTF is going on here. The car had SC calipers and rotors at the rear. I found a used set of Carrera calipers, rebuild them and all was good. Now I took the front calipers to install them, and again WTF. The did not fit over the Carrera front rotors. Long story short, the car had SC brakes all around. I was lucky and had a used set of Carrera Calipers, so I rebuilt them as well. Now I have a complete extra SC caliper set, rebuilt and ready to go. Here is a picture of the calipers. The top is Carrera front at the left and rear at the right. Bottem is SC, Front at the left and rear at the right. SC Rotor are 20mm, Carrera Rotors 24mm. Cheers Engelbert

Welcome to the world of Mutts! I too have been bitten by the WTF snake while sorting out an old rusty Porsche. Some are made from shop floor sweepings. Finishing up a sort of mostly 1969 912 and have a real early 65/66 912 with a grafted in 356 motor in the wings.
The good news is a nice set of sorted out SC brakes is not shelf junk.

Looks like its time for an update:
Got the tail light housing restored and installed, as well the center reflector. Since the original dash was FUBAR, I sourced a used one. Not perfect, bud good enough for me to fix and use. It had some wrapping and was a bit caved in at the top area where the gauges are. So I took the head gun and reformed it as good as I could, and fixed the low spots with fiber glass. It's now a lot stronger and will be good for new vinyl. Here is it all done and it fits nice. Also installed the rear window. And the Targa bar cover. Next to recover the inside of the Targa bar Cleaning up all the old foam and glue. Made new vent panels. And installed it. There are a few wrinkles, but I think they will go away once it's a bit warmer. Next the rear shelf. It was also complete destroyed. So I made a new one from scratch. I wanted to try something new. So I cut the Targa script from vinyl and put it on the foam. Cut it out Glued it on the foam that goes on the vertical section of the rear shelf. And covered it with vinyl. Tadaaaa I also made complete new rear side panels. Here with the rear shelf installed. Also the dash is back from recovering and installed. I took the old leather off of the knee pads and covered them with vinyl. I found a good set of door tops and also recovered them with vinyl. The ash tray was also beyond saving, but I found a replacement. To be continued Cheers Engelbert

Great work...
on the dash, you just sanded down the original? What did you use as filler before putting on the new vinyl covering?

I used fiber glass to fill the low spots.
