Be sure to look at stroke length or distance between the bottom of the lift arm and the floor at full stroke. Some lifts go higher than others. A short lift is a chore. Some lifts have tall strokes but are themselves not taller.

Ahhhhh, I see. Then yes, I would want an asymmetric, low profile lift. That answers those question. Thank you edevinney.

So this is moving along nicely and will record on 9/30. The bummer is I will have to bow out of the West Coast Ramble (WCR) this year because I will be tied up dealing with the new home. We hope to be completely moved in before Thanksgiving. I am just going to go in there and paint and replace existing carpets so we can live comfortably while we decide what we will do to it. I know it will get a full garage remodel. I will also do a complete kitchen and 3 bathrooms. Probably open a few doorways up much bigger. Really, after the last few homes this one will be a walk in the park.

The real fun will be my brother's ADU - Additional Domestic Unit. My twin brother and I are very close- best friends. He currently lives about 5 miles from me. He wants to retire too and when my wife and I offered to let him build a home on our property he said, "Yes". That will be prefect as then he will be close and we can build the garage we want. I won't know until we draw plans and submit, but the plan would be to maximize his 1200 sq. ft. of living space by making a mechanical room as part of the garage, so it will house a laundry, pantry and all of the house HVAC, on-demand hot water, electrical panel, etc.

Been busy with the new home and selling the old home. Now that it is sold I have been packing a little every day and then every time I go up to the new place I take a truckload.

I have already removed all of my "wall art" filled the holes and painted so the garage looks like new. The buyers were blown away by the garage and have a 6 year old son who already loves cars so they believe they will make good use of the garage as he grows.

Today I am taking a break to attend our local Cars 'n Coffee. It may be the last time I attend with my car for a little while.

Hi everyone- I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. We are settling into our new home and I am getting the garage organized. We had a whole lot of moving boxes taking up half of the over-sized 3-car garage. I am down to about 12 medium boxes of Christmas junk. Can't put that away as my wife is going to begin putting up decorations in about a week.

My car is under a cover at my brother's house and I am awaiting a new piece of center tunnel carpet as a part of the parts to swap out my Renn-Shifter and go back to a stock 914-6 shifter and hand-throttle. The Renn-shifter was a bit stiff to shift and honestly, did not fit the stock interior look. Hopefully by the end of the year she will be in my garage and ready to drive.

Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas.
Michael

OK, we got the stock shifter in the car with the hand throttle back- yay! Have an issue with the hand throttle and discovered the pedal shaft is incorrect so we are sourcing the correct shaft. The one in it is from an SC (likely swapped by accident during the pedal rebuild) and I have a stock replacement coming.

Driving it with the stock (late) shifter (car has a 901 side-shifter) was something else. The throw from 1st to 2nd is LOOOONG. So I am looking for a Weltmeister lower pivot and plate to work with my late stock shifter so I can shorten the throw a bit.

But I love the look with the stock shifter in the car. The RennShifter shifted beautifully after we sorted the shifting problem which was all in the rear shift rod. But I just wanted the stock shifter and hand throttle back in the car.

Gathering parts to do a bit more work. Turns out the heater lever (red knob) in my car is the wrong lever- it is actually a hand throttle lever. So I am sourcing the correct lever to replace it.
Also, I felt my brakes were not up to snuff. So I have sourced a set of '88 Carrera front calipers and will buy the appropriate drilled and vented rotors to match and swap those out along with new pads. That should get her stopping on a dime. The rears are 914-6 GT calipers with drilled and vented rotors and are perfect.
Finally, the clutch pivot shaft in my pedal box somehow during rebuild got swapped with an SC clutch pivot arm. The difference makes the pivot arm about 1/2" longer and moves the throttle arm over accordingly. So I have the correct clutch pivot arm coming and will swap that out too. Oh, I also sourced the correct rubber shift lever boot for the interior.
At this point it is just little things like this that need attention. The car is running like a champ and driving beautifully.

My /6 still runs the original tailshifter transmission and linkage.

Yes.. First gear when engaged sits at about my butt/hip and Second and Fourth almost touch the dashboard! Its "ok" when in good adjustment but even then it feels more like a "stick in butter" than any modern car could ever feel like!

A 914/4 (1970) was my first car. It taught me extreme patience when learning how to shift smoothly. No speed shifts here as clutches and gears are way too expensive to fix than I could afford at age 16
