Default "The old lady" 928 restoration project 2014

I've finally decided to get my 1979 Porsche 928 back into shape. She has been very good to me but her lipstick is smeared and she is in need of a facelift.

I'm looking for a repair shop that will do some minor repairs. First item is the exhaust. Any recommendations in the Rockville area?

x2 on Matt. Don't be put off by his small shop - he's a master and I've seen some amazing (i.e. rare and very valuable) cars in there (drool...). He is an amazingly nice guy, extremely honest, and skilled.

Spoke with Matt and got an appointment for next week. I will begin posting before and after pictures to show the progression.

Items needing repair include:

Power window buttons
Turn signal does not disengage when making a left hand turn. (Manually must be switched off)
Check CV boots and replace
Transmission fluid flush
Breaks make a horrible sound and grind.
Vehicle stalls after heavy rain
Window seals leak
Headlamps to not flip up automatically. (Again, manually they work)
Back up lights do not engage when in, ironically, reverse.
Tires - Whoever has seen this car will know what I mean - Can you spell D R Y R O T (25 year old tires)

For parts go to 928intl.com or call and ask for tom, or go to http://928motorsports.com/

Good news, you are in good hands. Matt is top notch indeed. In no time he'll have you back on the road.

Holy cow, a 928 thread!

I hadn't heard of that shop previously, glad to know of another 928-aware tech resource in the general vicinity, they are hard to come by.

There's a pretty solid owner's group in the area, should you decide to get into any of that work yourself- several items seem likely to be easy projects. Of course, I understand the appeal of saying just 'just fix it' if you have the wherewithall.

Hope you get it sorted and can bring it to the "Frenzy" gathering in the fall, it's been drawing owners from the deep south, midwest and Canada in the last few years.

Also best wishes that the CIS injection isn't perturbed from sitting, that can be a long road..>BTDT.

And as long as sources for parts are being tossed out, another vendor catering to the 928 owners looms large nowadays- 928srus (dot com). Their website is not set up as a store, they work principally by email and telephone but have cultivated a strong following for their pricing. I heartily second 928intl as well, very professional and great service with new, used and rebuilt parts. Also, a startup focusing on OBs: http://928classics.com/

Ditto on the local 928 community. There are a lot of 928's in our area and a couple of guys in Virginia who know the older models and their fuel injection system quite well. Bring the car to Frenzy in the fall - it brings in 928 folks from as far south as Texas and as far north as Montreal but it is less than an hour's drive for you.
