Interesting, the use of stiffening braces while the doors are out.

It is a 914. .


After positioning a 914 on the lift but before lifting it I sometimes put strips of masking tape across the gap then slit the tape across the gap. This made for a nice visual of flex for the owner.

thats a good one. I picked up one years ago and after maybe 2" it was clear there were issues. I bet it would have broken in half if I kept going.

Car looks great, thanks for sharing the details. Great color.

Thank you very much. It has been a long road to get to this point. Yes, these cars are known to break in half when they get old and rust neglect sets in. One quick and easy way to "test" these when you are looking to buy is to open both doors and then stand on the sill and sort of jump up and down to see how much flex you have. I was lucky as mine was pretty solid in the longs. We had other issues, of course, but the longs were good. Likely had something to do with the Exxon Valdez oil leaks and everything being covered in oil....
