Lifting on the frame rails it is. Here is my car on the lift. As noted in the opening post, I need to have the forward lift arms aimed more-or-less straight inward to reach the frame rails. That means I can not put the car as far forward as I would like. It seems pretty darn stable, and I can't see that this is stressing the lift. Surely, lifting a 3000 lb car with a 9000 lb lift, there is some room to work with. And I don't imagine this is any worse than lifting my 996, with all the weight in the back of the car. However, if this looks unsafe to anyone, please let me know.

Hard to tell in the pic, is that an asymmetrical lift? If so, the balance does not look too far off.
If it is a symmetrical, that is way too far off center to be safe.

The clue is in the base plate.

saw the base plate, but the posts look square. Asyms I have seen have the posts rotated along the load center lines, so I was asking.

So which is the answer? I thought it looked sketchy to me as well, but what do I know?

Try pulling it forward about 6" to a foot, test balance when a few inches off the ground.

The pic is hard to tell since there is a little parallax going on. Know that on the rocker panel there is a little diamond shaped dent to indicate the center jacking point and I'm pretty sure it is the center of gravity for these cars. If you can adjust your arms so the center posts are in line from side to side with these marks, you are gold.
