Put me down for one. Make it yellow and without a chain though if possible

J/K - fully functional is best and color makes no difference at all.

Put me down for $50, and however much of a bike that buys (I pity the kid who gets all but the seat...).

Update:

I am going to the Republic of Panama on Thursday 12/7, and I will be returning on Sunday 12/10. During that time, I will be able to get firm prices for the bicycles. Since I "might" be able to arrange a volume discount, if there is anyway you can let me know if you might be interested in participating before Thursday, that would help.

To all who have already said they would participate, I very much appreciate your help.

Jazz, any way that we could get a temporary sticky for thread?

Todd,

I will participate. One or two, depending on cost. When do you plan to deliver them, and how difficult/expensive are arrangments to get there?

Thanks!

Eric

Hey Eric,

It is very easy to get to Panama. Although ticket costs generally are more expensive during the holiday period, they typically are about $500 round trip. The flights from DC connect through Miami or Dallas, and overall travel time is about 5-6 hours.

I most likely will make the arrangements for purchasing the bikes this weekend, and determine when I could deliver them. I can post back details of this next week. As a practical matter, I think I will be able to deliver them either between christmas and new years, or when I return to Panama to pick my family up later in January (maybe around the 19th). I can keep you updated and help you arrange travel if you would like to come down.

I really appreciate the participation!

UPDATE:

Thanks all. I am heading down to Panama tomorrow morning (Thursday, December 7) and I will be returning on Sunday (December 10). During that time, I am going to try to firm up the details, including the target village(s) and the prices of the bikes. I will post either from Panama or on Monday when I return (after 8pm).

I still plan to buy the bikes from my own funds, and then have you guys pay me the exact costs afterwards. I trust all of you to take care of me quickly. Since this has been pending for over one year now, I am not 100% certain about whether some of the people who said they were interested a year ago are still interested. So, I am listing below the people who I know want to help with the specific bike project, and people who said generally they would like to help. PLEASE REVIEW THE LIST AND LET ME KNOW IF IT IS ACCURATE. IF YOU ARE LISTED IN THE "Interested But Unconfirmed" LIST, I AM GOING TO ASSUME THAT YOU ARE NOT PARTICIPATING UNLESS YOU LET ME KNOW OTHERWISE.

Thanks to all who have pledged to help. If you have not yet, or have not confirmed again, please consider doing so. We are ALL extraordinarily lucky. Here is the list

Peter Kaufmann ($50)
Bill J (1 bike)
Eric S (1 or 2 bikes)

David D. -- BlackTalon (??? bikes)

Matthew Plache -- Cliff Claven (?? bikes)

If you are on the unconfirmed list or not listed at all and you would like to participate, please let me know asap. Assume for the moment that the bikes are going to be $50 each. If they are going to be more, I will let you know before moving forward.

Thanks to all!
