Removing seats from a 981 Cayman
How easy or hard is it to remove the seats from a 981 Cayman. I remember it was a total pain in my mid-80s 911s, but was easy-peasy in my 997.2. Would like DD with comfortable seats, but must have harnesses and HANS for the track. Still not sure what my next car will be...or when.

Easy 4 bolts holding it down, just be sure you have the correct socket. Not sure what these types of bolts are called but pic below to see it. Depending on the seat electronics you'll need to disconnect everything from underneath the seat once off the floor. The airbag light will stay on after removal. I have had it cleared a couple times and it came back each time so I just live with it now.

Etorx - the new(ish) thing in German automotive fasteners. If you work on BMWs you have a set of these already, or you work on very old BMWs.

The secret to the air bag light is to always have the ignition off when disconnecting the seat from the electronics. Removing the four bolts is easy but that removes the seat and the tracks. It's best to leave the seats with their tracks and have tracks fitted to the replacement seats. I used to do this with a small impact wrench in minutes.

The only things I would add is that the OEM seats are freaking heavy so watch your back. Also, the seat belt receivers are connected to the OEM seats with multiple wires, sensors etc. If you want to use the three point belts while driving around you will need to add some receivers. I bolted in receivers from a 944, which did the job.

Thanks all. This sounds very do-able.

I used to do the seat swap with my 981CS. As already stated the electric seats are heavy, cover door sill's, etc.
Make sure you don't have the key in the ignition or turn it on when there's no seat. Otherwise you will end up with an airbag light. I used a 997 seat belt receptacle and it plugged right up with no air bag light. A iCarsoft POR V2.0 can be used to clear the airbag light, durameteric will also work. Maybe others. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
