Mark,
Make sure your new shocks come with new shields before you destroy the old ones. I think I remember having to re-use these. |

Thanks to all who chimed in. The vice grips on the rod worked fine. I had also sprayed some PB Blaster on the nuts in advance. I was prepared to grind the nuts off, if necessary, but I'm glad it didn't come to that, as I imagine it would have made a mess in my trunk.
