Default E91 rough idle at start

09 328ix. New plugs, coils. Cleaned both Vanos valves. When I first crank up in the am the RPMS/Idle jumps around a bit then settles into a nice smooth idle. I'ver checked for codes but all is clear.

I am thinking it might have a leaky injector but outside of that I have no idea.

Sometimes you have to reset it with a computer hook up, enter in ignition menu or similar. "Reset of stratification adaptation"

Your engine works with a stratified mix (not smooth), the mix is distributed by layer (Higher volume of gasoline near of spark plug)

You need to reset the "throttle adaptation", You can do it by yourself without using a PC or Solus, there is a post about this issue:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...64#post9934064

Note: the adaptation learns about our driving style, when you reset the adaptation, you will notice a improvement.

-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Steps to do it manually:

1. Never touch the break pedal & key remains inserted the entire time
2. Insert key and push START Button
3. Press and HOLD gas pedal for 5 seconds
4. WITHOUT RELEASING THE GAS PEDAL, push the START Button
5. Release gas pedal
6. Wait full 2 minutes
7. Start car normally

Might be worth checking/cleaning the IAC valve if it has one.

The idle circuit is built into the throttle motor, no idle valve . I guess sticky injectors are are thing on these. I mean it runs fine otherwise. Just that little cough in the am. @Ducati we can get up early this Sunday and work on since im driving it down Sat night. Im thinking like 6am?

Yeah no ICV because no (functional) throttle body.

Question - is it only rough idle on cold start? If you shut the engine off so say 15 min and restart is it fine? I'm thinking some sort of cold start issue or possibly bad (or failing) O2 sensors.

when i did my injectors on the e36 many of the injector caps basically fell off...may consider a set of caps and o rings available before you pull them...pull them out and put in individual plastic baggies and then see how they are working when you turn the car on...easy to identify if you have one or more leaking...

Its only happens in the am or after its cooled down for a few hours. My wife is the one who drives it and she has never even mentioned it. However, knowing its there is driving me nuts.
