It always nice to have two lifts for when you need it, lol. Especially when you cant put it away when not needed. Thats most likely what Ill do when I get my place situated since the lift is payed for an the used lift market sucks.

10' high will be close...might not be enough to store a car underneath another though.
If that's not important, it'll be fine for just working on a car.

I do not think 10' will be high enough unless the peak folds front-to-back so higher in the center but full width for that height. AND, then you need to have a commercial door (like Trak Ratt) that follows the peak up. My garage is just shy of 9' and the 911 tops out to the garage door when my 4' lift is fully raised.

Why not add 1' of height and be sure it's high enough, increase your storage space on the walls, and save money on your door (commercial doors are expensive).

Not sure why you need a commercial door, residential doors come in many sizes and dont have to be expensive. In a perfect world the ceiling is 12'+ and the lift bay is at least 24' long. My space is constructed now I'm fitting out, it never ends, but I went through this over the past ~year.

Good luck, great project

I would have loved to have had a 12' ceiling, but since this is coming in prefab panels, the manufacturer maxes the height at 10 ft.

John I would like to hear your thought after they finish your garage. I was looking at them to build my garage if I got the stick build route or wooden prefab vs steel. Keep up the good work and updates.

The Amish company that was linked on Dorki about a month ago makes some specifically for garages and come in taller sizes (pre-fab). Might consider.

Regarding commercial doors - I got this from TR and maybe it's changed, but he needed to run his door up at an angle to give more height, and I guess to get that lift (continued force required throughout the lift) he needed commercial - maybe he'll chime in.

I used sheds unlimited for a 16x24 detached garage 12 years ago. it is still standing..

building was very basic. 2x4 frame, cheap siding, cheap shingle roof. two guys put it up in two days on slab i had poured. i added insulation, a loft, electrical, lights, etc.

decent quality building for a very simple, no frills structure. it fit the budget at the time.

I am now working with architect on a custom 30x30 shop with 12 ft ceilings and a 25x30 second floor for storage. to be built soon at house we are moving to nearby.

Not true, nothing to do with the door. A high lift kit should be an option from most door installers, track extensions and maybe a bigger spring. I'm sure there are some doors that wouldnt work in this installation but standard, 3/4 panel doors have no issue.
