Default Fuel lines cracked….again?!

Wondering if someone can confirm something. Back in late 2018 I had my fuel lines replaced. From 2019 - November 2022 the car was placed in storage where it was occasionally driven once every month or so.

Today, while inspecting something else I noticed that again - fuel lines are cracked. How could this be? Before then the car had original fuel lines that lasted 170k miles. Can 4 years and less than 1000 miles driven really deteriorate the fuel lines that quickly?

Anyways, here’s the answer from the shop upon me asking:

Ethanol in the gasoline is a big contributor to that as rubber can not
tolerate alcohol and sitting with alcohol in the lines is not good either.

Thoughts??

I do agree with ethanol being a contributor to rubber fuel line failure. You don't mention the car involved though. New cars and fuel lines are built to withstand this issue, but if an older car, replaced with older style lines, then yes, it could be the issue. Especially if its been sitting. Time is the enemy here.. less so if the car was driven more as fuel would have been moving through the system more frequently. If you have a car that is little used, consider using fuel additives built for such scenarios (sitting/storage).

What car? Carbs or FI? No way around the issue if cant use ethanol free fuel, but it can be mitigated with the right line material depending on use case.

Sorry guys, it’s a 3.2 Targa. The lines used were OEM fuel lines.

Thoughts on Griffith lines? They mention being better.
