Default Mechanics? Who do you recommend?

Reaching out because I am sick of dealing with an oil leak. I spent 2 days on it and just done really.

The leak is coming from the lower cover on the passengers side, replaced the upper gasket and put on Rennline billet valve covers on the lowers. Torqued to specs, all that said still have a leak and like I said, done. I had factory turbo lowers on it before the Rennline. The Rennline did take care of the drivers side leak, and most of the passengers side but now the leak is coming from the top of the lower cover?!?

I heard that some people are talking about using silicone lowers that are 1/16 thick and tighten to 15 inch pounds, installed dry. BUT... I feel like that's a Hail Mary.

I could do Wrightwood gaskets and put the turbo covers back on, but.....bitter...

Did Charlie retire?

Thanks!
Bill

Charlie is still around as far as I know. Probably need to take it to their Ashburn location, though. Other options closer in are ASG and Autobahn. Autobahn's lead mechanic has decades of experience.

Can you pin point what is exactly leaking?
- Is it the rocker shafts
- Is it the valve cover

You will know if its the shafts as the cavity between the rockers will be wet. The fix here is RSR seals.

If its the valve cover and you have brand new Rennline covers then you know that surface is good, but how is the cam tower surface? Silicone covers are the only thing on my SC drivers side that will prevent a leak. I tried both stock and stock with the silicone bead. Both allowed a leak because some smart guy marred the cam tower. Once the silicone gasket was put on, its been dry for 1,000+ miles.

Taylor Chapman did my supplied silicone gaskets from Pelican back in the day when I converted to the Turbo covers. I can't recall the maker of the gasket, but it was whatever was offered back in 2007-8.

I never had any leak issues. Maybe hit him up?

Sure that the leak is not coming from an oil return tube?

The triangle of death is sneaky, can leak from there and make you think it’s from somewhere else.

Charlie is semi-retired (but the best choice for fixing things like this). Still at Intersport but also is working on improving his golf game (which is better than mine). I'd call Intersport in Ashburn and see what they can do for you. Sometimes it works best on timing for Charlie to look at it and have him tell one of the other folks at Intersport what to do.

The lower valve cover on the passengers side is leaking from the top, engine was rebuilt 4k miles ago and had the RSR seals installed. Thanks for the heads up on the marred cam tower!
