Default Which vehicle to drive in potential snow?

I plan to attend the Chesapeake holiday party in Ellicott City on Saturday night. Will be driving home to Lothian around 11:00 pm to midnight. Weather forecast is for some bit of snow (we will see). If the forecast holds, do I drive . . .

The RWD 325i with Yoko Iceguard winter tires, or . . .

The F-250 with all-season truck tires and 4WD capability?

I'm deciding between my Mini and Accord for saturday, so I'd default to the 325. But, take off the winder tires and have some fun!

Its not the car you drive, its who else will be on the road you should be more worried of.

996? Even better traction than the others, especially with some snows!

Anything w/ snow tires for the win if its not scheduled to get so deep ground clearance is a problem. The Mustang (on snows) is the go-to winter vehicle until there is going to more than ~4". We pick it before the wife's 4WD SUV or my truck (both on all seasons.)

FWIW, given the smallish amount of snow predicted, I think the winter/snow tires would be the better option. 4WD is good, but if the tires don't have a lot of sipping grooves, traction will be a potential problem on a smoothish surface.

An All-Season performer IMHO is Michelin LTX. The added sipping grooves work extremely well on slick surfaces (lots of little edges trying to grip)

Versus, this Yokohama tire, which has some sipping, but not as much.

Versus, this Michelin Summer truck tire, which doesn't have any of the small sipping grooves.

If your All-Season tire has lots of sipping, it should be effective on slick surfaces.

4WD gains more of an advantage as the snow gets deeper; the tread pattern also dictates how well it'll dig through the deep stuff.

Last winter there was one day when I drove in about a half inch of snow with the BMW on its winter tires, and I was quite impressed. I drove conservatively and felt pretty secure. I should have made my way to an empty lot somewhere to play around and explore. I am leaning toward driving the BMW. I guess one circumstance where the truck has the advantage is if someone else screws up and hits me.

The 996 is not an option at this point. I'm still waiting to get the car back from the engine rebuild. The motor is back in the car, but apparently it is showing a code and Roger B. is trying to sort that out.
