THese new leds are much better than the ones I used back in 2002, but that was 12 years ago! Hot spots were almost unavoidable back then, but they were far superior to the dull yellow incandescent bulbs. Far as I know they are still in the car.

I got the #4 LED's. There is somebody at the Pelican forum who sells the LED's for $80 a set, which look like the #3, I found at Ebay. So I started to look into this and ended up up with the LED shown as #4, with the 3 LED at the top and one each left and right.

I would make 2 set's available for testing, if somebody is interested.

Cheers

Do you have a link for the #4 bulbs? This is a project I've wanted to tackle for a long time, but I have not been very impressed by some of the earlier bulbs. These really seem to have promise.

I'd offer to buy one of the sets from you, but I don't know when I will actually get to the project (most likely not until the summer). Best they go to people who can install them much sooner and report back with the good and bad.

Thanks for running this experiment and posting your results!

Of course as Murphy's law would have it I just replaced all of mine a month ago for the first time with new incandescents... LOL.. Either way, I wouldn't mind giving this a shot! PM me with details.

Followup on using an LED bulb for the alternator light: according a TSB (no number) cited in my 74-98 Porsche parts book which talks about updating to the newer alternator with an integrated voltage regular, the alternator is looking for an excitation current through the bulb.

The problem with older cars is that the bulb is a 2W bulb, and sometimes that doesn't draw enough current. Newer cars use a 4W bulb. To fix this problem on an older car, they recommend using a 91 ohm 5W resistor in parallel with the bulb, so likely you could do something similar with an LED bulb.

Here are 2 pictures with the complete set installed.

Here with the white

Now I have also the warm white or AKA Vintage Look. I switched all of them out with the white once. I personally like them both.

I got both types for sale, I just wanted to get some feedback first, that why I asked for some testers.

Thanks
Engelbert

I have a set that I bought from etarga, and they work great! He included a blue and green led for the low and the high beam.

They look terrific. The multiple emitters eliminate the hot spots everywhere but on the clock, which is understandable since its a single bulb. Really nice result.
This is a no-brainer upgrade. Once you've experienced decent gauge lighting in your early 911 you'll wonder how you ever put up with the candle light of old.
