Default HELP! Screwy carb rebuild issue ...

I pulled my carbs yesterday to inspect and rebuild. I found a surprise - a small ball bearing or BB has been living in #5 intake manifold/throttle body. Please refer to the gory details in Pelican post:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...threadid=92158

Anybody interested in coming over Friday or the weekend to take a look and contemplate the consequences with me ... ??

Thanks.

thats very strange indeed...? Any stray bb guns laying around your garage?

How your throttle plate got damaged is strange also. The only was i can think of it becoming damaged is by the plate closing on the bb/bearing forcefully, but why it would not fall into the carb body is beyond me. Mabye you just got lucky if you found no other damage. intake manifold and valves look healthy, thats good. May want to check the other series of carbs, as it could have come from the other bank!? I may be able to come scratch heads with you on sunday just out of curiosity.

Greg:

I know nothing about you carbs, but in some after market American carbs, a be be was used to seal an orafice for a small check valve or if the housing had to be drilled for a fuel or air passage way, and then the end sealed. A be be of larger diameter was placed in the hole and pressed in.

Just a WAG.

Marc,

You're exactly right. The carb is completely disassembled, but no missing ball valves were found. I guess it'll remain a mystery. At least no real damage is evident.
