Default Discounted value for body work

As part of our upcoming Big Move, I'm selling my cars (that's kind of scary looking written down...).

The 993 had a rear quarter replaced before I got it in 2005. No incident on Carfax but I always go warts-and-all so that'll be a part of the negotiation. If it was a serious incident it doesn't show elsewhere except for the front jack supports which have been doinked by some cowboy flatbed guy. The car got a bare-metal respray at D&V Master in 2019 and looks terrific. Drives terrific as well.

What's the sense of the Senate about pricing compared to similar cars with original bodywork?

According to the title of Karl's thread, it's $20k.

A part of me hopes that's true - then it wouldn't be worth selling and I might as well schlep it over and pay $9/gallon to drive it.

What's the price range of the car without damage? its a what, almost 30 year old car car? finding any that have actually been used and not had some work done would be hard imho. Maybe 10% less? The bare metal respray might (if documented) negate the accident damage issue

You need to provide the peanut gallery more info for our useless opinion.
If it is a garage queen, the accident and even a high quality respray knock it down a considerable amount towards the price of a quality driver.
If it is a quality driver with no deferred maintenance and you have a lot of maintenance records during your long ownership, then it should not affect it much.
At the end of the day, it depends on whether you can hold out for the right buyer.
Good luck. Also, after paying $16/gal for race gas at summit, I can tell you that paying $9/gal to drive it ex-US is not the worst thing.

IMHO, condition is everything when it comes to a classic Porsche 911. 95’s are sought after because they don’t have the air injection issue. I would not discount it at all and simply list it for sale with a very detailed description and 20 pictures.

Oh no, I have to blather about my favorite car!

1996 C2, in the world's best color Iris Blue Metallic. 97k miles, factory sport seats, M030, ABD/LSD. Major 90k service and repaint documented here a few years ago: https://dorkiphus.net/porsche/showthread.php?t=39322

A good number of typical mods: lowered on RoW springs, shaved bumperettes, FDM/OEM short shift, GT3 3 spoke steering wheel, Getty ducktail with original decklid painted along with the car if someone wants to go back.

I think it's a damn fine driver.

This seems like a wise approach, thanks.

I agree. If there is no Bondo and it was fixed correctly, I think the car should sell without "damage penalty" after a bare-metal respray.

Here is my opinion. I’ll keep it unless you need the cash.if you want to sell it, start with your full description and $80-85k asking price and see where it goes.
My observation is that your buyer is likely an enthusiast who wants a 993 to keep for a long time and enjoy rather than someone who is buying a car they plan to make money or at least not lose money on.
Unfortunately, air cooled cars demand real money these days and it takes a real enthusiast not to worry about possible down side when they part with that much cash.
Good luck Ed
