The car came with a Griffins, A/C conversion kit. The kit is from 2017 and was purchased by a PO. Armed with that info and a bit of internet knowledge I figured we would give it a shot. Picked up three cans of 134a from the orange big box store, $5.27 a can and a flush kit as well. My friend Mike dropped by this afternoon with a compressor to pull a vacuum and a set of gauges. The system was completely empty from the engine rebuild so we didn’t need to capture the old refrigerant. Lucked out the compressor was empty as well. Flushed the system and filled the compressor with oil using a syringe, added a whisper less than two cans of 134a. The numbers look good. We are at 59 degrees at the vent while idling with the windows open and the fan recirculating on full blast. We will see how it holds up.

Quick update:
The post a/c conversion test drive uncovered an issue with the fan speed. It only operated on high. Love the internet, high probability is the fan speed resistor pack. Details here: http://944time.com/porsche/944-fan-speed-resistor.php “She” had apple cider vinegar in the fridge, so we went with that. One hour in the vinegar and one hour in the hot car soaking up the sun to dry, success. We have all four fan speeds operating and functional a/c

The progress continues. The OEM steering wheel needed work. The car came with an additional wheel also in need of recovering.
Found a slightly used Nardi, easy decision. Need to find a Porsche horn button.

Karl,
FYI. My understanding of 944 windshields is that its constructed with glass on the outside and laminate on the inside. I've read that suction mounts shouldn't be used on the interior, for fear of pulling the laminate away from the glass. Also, on the subject on glass, how's the top of the rear hatch glass relative to the frame. When originally installed at the factory, there's some dimples in the glass that are almost flush with the edge of the frame. When the glass starts to pull away, the dimples are more evident. There's about 1/4 inch of glass between the dimples and edge of the glass; that lets you know if you're close to opening a gap. There was OEM black paint on the inside that also acted as a glue holding the glass to the frame. But UV deteriorates the paint, and eventually the glass can start pulling out. Another exacerbation is installation of new (more powerful) hatch struts that can actually cause the separation to worsen.
