Took Der Baron to Laguna Seca with the Golden Gate Chapter of PCA. Great track and nice people. Wow was the machinery next level. Club racers with rigs and uniformed pit crews to make IMSA teams jealous.

Surprised that you're able to run the back half the track in 3rd gear.

Baron hasn't seen this type of action in a long time, did it hold up okay? I know the tires are likely shot.

From T5 until the Corkscrew, it is an uphill climb. Even with a brief brush of the brakes for T6, I did not redline. 217 HP (as rated 37 year ago lol) doesn't exactly fly up that hill. The tires were not shot, but they were hard from the factory and only 3 or 4 years old! My theory is learn the track on hard rubber. The other benefit is that I am less likely to roast the calipers.

Der Baron started popping out of 3rd right before I headed west. So I had the transaxle rebuilt here. Had a bunch of stuff done while we were in there like clutch, valve adjustment, fuel lines, pedal cluster bits, clutch helper springs, etc. Before I came out I got new calipers, and clutch cable. The car held up well to the two days of track fun, but now has a tendency to stall at idle. Vacuum leak maybe? Nothing you notice on track, but around the paddock or on the street its embarrassing to stall.

I'll have much more fun watching the big boys at Rennsport having driven the track. I did get to give some demo laps in my students' Cayman and Lotus Evora, so I have felt the joy of some horsepower!

They just repaved. Did you run out of skill there recently?

Red-mist with another guy about 4 years ago through 1 and 2. Turned in early at 2 and ran wide off the track. On re-entry, right front wheel became the pivot point and just watched the world rotate around me. Just lean back, cross your arms, keep both feet in and wait for the crunch. RED MIST is a thing.
