HI,
I see you all have some excellent thoughts here on this site and I am wondering if any one has any thoughts on how to assist in my PSM issue. I have a 981 Boxster with pdk, 3.8, tractive suspension setup. With the PSM switched off it keeps coming on and my brakes are cooked after only 3 or 4 laps. I am wondering if it would be possible to add a 718 PDK gt4 PSM sensor module and the wiring to the center consul PSM switch to completely disable PSM. Any thoughts much appreciated. 981GT4 did not have pdk. The only thing I have seen is to use a Piwis and set it to PCCB brakes, this can raise the limit of interaction. What is your level of driving experience? Have you looked at why the PSM keeps kicking in? If you are abrupt/rough with the controls, the PSM will kick in much sooner than if you are very smooth. I've seen drivers who they thought they were very smooth, but the PSM was the only thing keeping them on the track. With that out of the way, the only option I've heard of for 981s is to install a cut-out switch on the ground wire from the yaw sensor (same trick as with 987s). However, there is a drawback to this on 981s, and that is you'll loose Sport and Sport Plus modes when you "turn off" the yaw sensor. As far as I know, no one has come up with a good solution for fully turning off PSM on non-GT4s without losing anything else.

I agree with Bill's comments. However, I'm wondering if your brake pads could be a contributing factor. Stock brake pads typically wear out MUCH faster under track duty. I know some people are reluctant to move into full track pads because of the dust they generate. But that's simply the tradeoff. If you intend to do more & better track driving, track pads and tires will be in your future. Swapping back & forth between street and track pads is an option. But as Bill mentioned, smoothness makes a huge difference in brake pad wear with modern nannies. Time spent learning driving up to, but not past the nannies, is a better investment.

If you're going to swap track and street pads back and forth, get the Brake Caliper Stud Kit to save you from cross-threading your current bolts into the aluminum struts, and also to make the job much easier and faster. You only need them on the front (for pads--when you swap your rotors you might wish you had them for the rear, too, but that will be much less frequent). Also, either purchase the Brake Line Bracket Stud Kit, or cut the head off some bolts and make your own (it's only $25 to purchase for all 4 wheels).

We built this 981 from a base pdk excellent gearing similar to the new gt4rs. Its faster than a 981 gt4 and gt4cs. Cost under 60k. Better suspension,gearing as well. I am accomplished with many track wins. Helped for 10 years at autox and track de with students. I cut the yaw wire years ago on my manual 987 and instantly dropped an average of two seconds per track. My 981 has a gt3 center radiator with gt4 front bumper. Its is flared with 280/320 slicks.11/12rears. 987 was on 280/305 10's and 12 rear. Love the 987 steering- much more immediate and precise. (next project) My car is a base and has PSM and Sport. I dont mind losing the sport. I can do a separate tune. I hope to test this weekend. Do you by chance know the color of the wire?? I put a switch on the 987 and turn it on in the rain. FYI, I called bgb,bbi, vision and others.- they recognize the issue. The Fix- 15k for a pro BoschM5 abs control but thats to rich for me. To brag a bit, I did beat graham royal, Patrick long and all the teaching pros at a sponsored Porsche Cayman challenge on the speed channel. I qualified first out of 70 amateurs. But that was over ten years ago. Im an old retired senior now... playing pickle ball too.. They say if you see an 70 old guy sporting a knee brace be prepared for a woop'in. Thats my partner. |

Unfortunately I don't have any experience doing a yaw delete post 987.2s. I believe I have an article on this site on doing it on my 987.1.
I have heard rumors that deleting the yaw sensor on newer Gen PDK cars cause more issues than it solves. But I don't have any details. Maybe someone else in this forum knows.
