944 Beater - Mini Project
OK, After 4 years I pulled the 944 out of the corner. I bought the car 10 years ago and used it to drive to work for about 6 years.
I got it running, and now I will do a little work to get it ready for spring to be my beater again. Here are a few pictures. That poor car was banged up on all 4 corners from somebody who was driving around in DC. First I had to put a shifter in, since I stole it for the 944 LS1, LOL. So I made my 944 shifter fix with 2 small axial bearings. So, one thing down. Next, some body work. Fitting on a new "used" spoiler. On 3 corners there were repairs done, and now there are cracks and rust is coming out. So I have to investigate what's going on. Wow, some highly specialized body worker did some work here. I don't want to waste too much time here, but I got to fix it at least a bit. I don't get it why I always find holes, especially when there is access from the back side. This is not the worse section, stay tuned, LOL. Cheers Engelbert

OK, so here is the driver side.
You can see, several layers of body filler. Same thing here is access from the back, no need to make holes. OK, lets take a look at the rear driver side. What would you expect ? Here mostly cleaned up and straightened out a bit. I cannot leave this. Made a new piece to weld in. The right rear panel was not cracked, just a bit wavy. So I just sanded down the high spots and filled up a bit to make it straight. Don't forget it's a beater. Nothing has to be perfect here. The driver door had a big dent right below the window. I had another one and just replaced it. Cheers Engelbert

Awesome. My 14 year old son has told me he wants a 944 when he turns 16. I need to start looking.

Another 15/YO here, James who is interested in our 944 Turbo.
Engelbert, thanks for sharing your project. Really looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. I suspect your idea of a beater may be different than the normal interpretation.

Well you two might be in luck, I am helping an Estate sell a 1984 one owner 944 with only 12xxx miles on it, belts, hoses just replaces, fluids flushed, interior and exterior match the low mileage, should be on BAT in a few weeks!!!

Dirk:
That sounds like a nice car but undoubtedly will be out of my price range. I'm thinking of something not quiet as nice and with another digit in the mileage reading. And BAT sounds like the right place for that car. Kurt, I don't know, LOL!. But it's a safe and slow by todays standards so might not be a bad first car. A modern toaster on wheels has more horsepower so maybe insurance won't be too pricey.

Yeah, I'm another person getting back into the 944 game. Dare I say they're getting "cool." OK, fine...cool might be an overstatement.

Funny, they are like a rash. Sad? to admit... well, I'm not quite ready to come out just yet.
Love the resto work! Are you planning to paint yourself? How hard is the color to match?
