Just get the Camaro
I've driven both (1LE Camaro and an M2). I cannot say enough good things about the 1LE. The 1LE is the angriest thing I've driven in a long time, but in no way is it rough or unrefined. It is incredibly competent, silly fast, and a fantastic value. It's also very wide, has horrible visibility, and the interior is a big letdown compared to the rest of the car. If you can get past the interior, and the mullet-head Camaro stigma, it's amazing.

The M2 is a much nicer place to do business, and not quite as raw and edgy as the Camaro. It's simply not as fast, but I'd certainly rather drive that car every day over the 1LE.

What hasn't been mentioned here is the other Mulletmobile - the Mustang. The PerformancePack 2 Mustang GT is just shy of the Camaro as a track-day machine, but a VASTLY superior car to live with on a daily basis. The interior of the Mustang is well designed, much more visually appealing, and the Coyote sounds glorious. It too is a bit faster than the M2c. I've driven the PP1 car, as I couldn't find a PP2 that was local. Where the Camaro feels a mile wide, the Mustang feels a mile long. Shifter is great, steering is disappointing numb.

Good info

I was looking at these the other night too. Cayman, M2XX, Camaro, Mustang... not exactly in the same bin but close enough to consider each. I think I'd rather have an e46 M or 330 but they seemed to have aged out. So few Caymans out there and way too many pdk's for my liking keeps me going back to bmw.
