Default My Merkur XR4ti that I bought on here

As some of you know I recently bought a 1987 Xr4ti from a member here. I know he wants to see the progress on the car, so Im starting this thread.
Right now the car is getting spark but no fuel. No pressure at the fuel rail and fuel pump isnt turning on. Already jumped the pump through the diagnostic port and still nothing. Assuming pump is bad.
When I got the car the paint was faded and dull from being outside. Some elbow grease, Meguiars #7, and an hour of time brought the life back into it and with no abrasives!
Before

You can see on the C-pillar where I started

After, with another application and giving it time to soak in the paint will only get better

Fuel pump in the gas tank is prolly all gummed up. You should be able to hear a slight humming with the ignition key on as the pump is energized.

I know I'll enjoy seeing this car make a roadworthy comeback!!!

I so wanted this car, if only I had space. At least I get to see it restored, live vicariously through Bordin

Put some back-to-black on the bottom trim pieces so the bottom looks at good at the top! Git-r-done!

I put some armorall on the trim pieces last night just to see if they would come back to life at all. They drank it right up. Its going to take a couple applications for the color to come back.
There is no fuel pump hum. I think either one or both of the pumps are bad from sitting.

Instead of ArmorAll, try Back-to-Black or similar non-greasy treatment, that won't get dirty so fast.

Nice recovery of the paint job on Rich's car. Isn't there a fuel pump relay that is known to go bad on these cars, or am I confusing that with my Porsche? I have owned four XRs, rebuilt all of them, and helped troubleshoot many more. Let me know via PM if you run into problems. I also have pretty extensive files, but sold my collection of XR shop manuals along with my last XR. There used to be plenty of help on onlin merkur forums also.

There are a couple relays that can go bad. I've bypassed the inertia switch, jumped the pump relay, and checked the eec relay. Next step is to run 12v directly to the pump.

For the black bits use aerospace protectant.
