Default Summer Internships for Mechanical Engineering

I am Ian, Handlebar’s son. This forum has given me some great advice for selecting a specific engineering major and college selection. Now, I’m moving towards finding engineering internships for this summer.

I study mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech with a GPA above 3.3. So far, I’ve completed courses on mechanical design, thermodynamics, electronics, system dynamics, java coding, and fluid mechanics. This next semester, I am taking classes on vibrations, heat and mass transfer, and materials engineering.

Personally, I enjoy projects where I achieve my goal through creative technical means. I am interested in research and development or problem solving, but would be willing to explore any opportunities in mechanical engineering. I realize that internships are entry level (at best) and a way to begin seeing engineering in the workplace. I get back from school about May 15th and return to school the 3rd week of August. I live in the Herndon/Chantilly area and I am able to commute some distance.

If you have suggestions for companies or contacts, please let me know.

Are you interested in building design? If you are, I can probably steer you to a couple M/E/P firms. One of them is even run but a long-time PCA member.

I certainly would love to learn more. I'm still figuring out which specific subset of mechanical engineering I want to pursue, so more opportunities are always great!

I'll shoot you a PM in the next day or two with some company names and contacts.
