For what it is worth, to give some background, it is a 78SC with 92k miles. It runs fine actually. There is chain noise from a loose timing chain. The compression is good in all cylinders in the 155 range for cylinders 1-5 and then 6 is at 120. So, it is just barely firing in the 6th cylinder but you wouldn't know it except for a slight loss of power.

My local said that you could probably drive it for another 10k miles the way it is and it wouldn't do anymore damage. Especially after I ran it through a tank of gas at 5k RPM on I64 with a can of BG44k to see if it was carbon deposits. The chain noise actually is hard to hear at times and then is louder at other times.

I don't drive it much and probably won't drive it much when it is fixed. Just to fill in for the DD on occasion and on weekends. I drove the Carrera about 1,500 miles a year.

not really, i'm not even in a position to 'volunteer' him in fact, but there are at least 3 motors built by charlie that are running around in dorkidom... not sure whether he has the time though...

You are right. I will drive it a ton. The reason the Carrera was never driven was because it was a targa and I had to look at the weather before it left the garage and I couldn't stand the wind noise on the drive to Richmond. This car is a beaut on the interstate. Actually very little wind noise. I must have a decent windeshield and door seal.

I don't think I've seen this on the thread: Supertec, Henry Schmidt 760-728-3062 www.supertecperformance.com. He rebuilt a motor for a Dorki last year, don't remember who but he was at VIR. Motor shipped to CA, shipped back a couple of month later IIRC.

I haven't used them and don't know any more about them.

I actually talked to Henry. He doesn't do anything less than a full rebuild and that starts at 8,500 without even putting in new P&C's. I have heard he is good though.

IIRC, Emery spent about $8K including new (larger) P&C's - someone correct me if I'm wrong.
