Hello all,
I'm a newbie to both this board and working on my 911. I met a few of you during the last tech inspection at IMA Mortorsport (btw-thanks charlie for letting me compare how your targa top fit on my car vs my current top. now i know its my top which doesn't fit and not the new weatherstripping.). Anyone doing a brake flush or rebuilding a caliper this week who wouldn't mind letting me watch and learn? These are the last two tasks on my list before my first DE event (VIR May 13-15). i changed my brake pads for the first time last week and one caliper dust boot tore when I took the brake pad out. No brake fluid was visibly leaking around the piston. Would it be bad to just replace the dust boot and not doing a full caliper rebuild? Thanks!

I am rebuilding my rear brakes as soon as I get the kits in hand. I expect to have them later this week. Let me know if you want to watch. My "you can watch" rates are reasonable even if I am not.
![]() You can also bring your car to the Tech inspection at ASG this coming Sat and see how to do a brake flush. If you bring the fluid and let me know you are coming we can do it for you the first time. Go to www.pcapotomac.org for details If you plan to do DEs I recommend that you get a Motive brake flush unit. It is less than $50, easy to use and when you know how you can flush you brakes yourself.

Patrick welcome to the group. As you will find out this is a very friendly board. It is primarily motivated by helping one another in their Porsche ownership experience. I find myself visiting atleast once a day. I recently replaced the brakes in my car, including installing steel braided lines and had it not been for this board, I probably would have paid someone to do it. This group will do for you what it has done for many of us and that is give you the knowledge and confidence to work on your own car and test your mechanical ability. I can't say that I have never paid someone else to work on my car but there are many of us here in this group that can. Anyway, welcome again, invest in some quality manuals (Bentley, 101 Projects, etc...) go to the tech sessions, and participate in the group discussions when you can, & I promise you that you will be working on your own car in no time.
Mike

Thanks for the welcome Mike. Also, that sounds great Kurt. Let me know whenever you are going to start on the calipers and I'll be there. And I'll definitely be at tech this Sunday.
Motive brake flush unit just came in the mail yesterday. I checked out the pelican posts, 101 projects book and got the Bently manual, but it would definitely improve my confidence to see it all done first. I'm ok with missing apexes because I just don't know how to drive on the track yet, different story if i missed one because I screwed up my brakes by forgetting something which would be obvious to someone who's done it before. ![]() thanks!

If you come to the tech event on Sunday you will be a bit bored.
THe next Tech is on Saturday as most are. The Sunday event at IMA was not SOP as Saturday had a conflict with the swap meet. It looks like the kits will come in on Fri so I might be rebuilding them on Fri night. (I dimly remember when weekend nights had a bit more going on than they do now) I plan to get things cleaned up tonight and tomorrow night so they will be ready for reassembly and install on Fri. Feel free to call if you want to stop by 571 233 3421 day 703 534 8153 after 5 Pulled the pads out last night and they would still pass Tech after 3 years on track. The front dust covers are still good after 3 years but the backs are crunchy. It may be slow on the straights but the old 12 sure is ea$y on brakes!

guess I should plan on reading the shop manuals closer than I did the tech schedule.
