Default loose rear bulbs & third brake light wiring issue. fixes

New user to the site requests any feedback regarding tail / 3rd brake light issues. 86 911 carrera bulbs loose for rear brake lights. any easy fixes while keeping existing housings? Problems with brake lights staying on while driving (when lights are turned on), and also third brake light comes on in reverse. Believe i have an aftermarker third brake light inside the vehicle, came as is when bought 3 years ago. interestingly this problem started a few months ago. slanted third brake light affixes on inside of rear window with double-sided tape. Rewiring never an easy thing, but anyone with ideas for home fixes, thank you for the feedback. Do not hesitate to email Mitch at cartoonman@vt.edu. Thank you!

3rd brake lights are actually quite simple to wire up. I have a feeling the PO didn't tap into the correct wires or their may be a short somewhere. I'd rewire the brake light. Use a test light to check the when power is applied to the light and trace where the wires go.

Good luck!

Look for a bad ground in one of the rear tailight housings causing a back feed into brake light circuit.

Thanks guys for the advice. I have not done much wiring for my car (actually, none), but if you happen to know a good technical "how to" reference, I appreciate it. Seems relatively simple, but a tech article would help immensely. Thanks!

Richard, thanks for the offer. I used to live out by Fairfax Station, off Henderson Road by English Hills near 123. I can certainly drive out sometime that fits your schedule. You may try me during the workday at 202.314.5020, or my cell phone 703.402.0824 in the evening. Let me know if I need any tools. Thanks!

Default Fixed!

Thanks for all the thoughts, guys. Rich and I discovered the wrong bulb was in one of the tail lights, causing the problem. Cleaned out the housings and the right bulb did the job. Glad it turned out easier than expected.
