Some custom work has been done on the shift linkage. I had purchased a shift rod that had been modified for and early 914 conversion to a /6 sideshift. GT Performance has added their touches as well. This will have the same setup as my 914/6 which was converted from tail shifter to side shifter. It shifts very nicely when the drover doesn't screw it up.

The Weltmeister short shift shifter will be replaced by a Rennshifter in the very near future. I'll have to order the early type shift rod connector for the Rennshifter as the rods we are working with are early 914 ('70-'72) as opposed to the later style.

The accelerator linkage has also been set up on the engine. The linkage piece from the throttle pivot actually uses a 993 part.

Looks good!

Mike, make sure the plastic bushing that snaps into the transmission has ZERO play (the one the rod passes though just before ball-cup arm.) Mine fit the rod very well but have slop between the bushing and the hole that it snaps into in the transmission. I've been tempted to JBWeld the bushing in as it would be easy to chip off and replace when bushing replacement becomes necessary (though a new one should snap in just the same.) That bushing is the #1 (and #2 and #3) cause for sloppy shifting now that you've gone to a proper U-joint behind the firewall. The firewall bushing isn't important. I did a kinematics analysis once and that bushing + a U-joint pay huge dividends. Don't bother w/ the high $$$ firewall bushing. It makes no difference other than making your wallet lighter.

Mike,
You have THREE 914 owners in your neighborhood? Or is that Karl's?

It's hard to believe but four 914's between two owners in the hood.

Just getting some safety equipment updated and having the GT checked out prior to the the season.

Must be somehting in the water. In my neighborhood it's not pairs of 914s but twins and one set of triplets. I'd opt for the 914s, or even the 944s!

FWIW the smaller of the bronze bushes for the peddle cluster is the same size. Have some if you want to try them for fit, but not for sale. They are destined for the '84 after Sebring.

Thanks for the tip Dave. I'll pick some extras up next week as I will want to do the pedal clusters at some point on both cars.
