oh c'mon the alternator is a 45 minute job. Lots of cussing and some blood but hey, it is german. I believe the valeo is 70 amp, and was used on the mid years like my 74. The newer units should be internally regulated. +1 on buying a rebuilt. for reduced downtime.

 *I'm a BMW fan / owner / DIY-er nut as well. '86 911s are easier DIY no "Bus" systems or mysterious control module (not many) black boxes to deal with.

Ground strap to case behind the alternator and lack of slack in harness to back of alternator ... and the need for small hands.
