Default RLI vs Lockton

Huh, just set up my track insurance for Watkins Glen and was surprised that RLI was just under $200 more than Lockton. In past years they were around $50 less than Lockton. Maybe RLI just doesn't like me and finally hit the front of the line.

One thing to compare: check the fine print. While they all cover the car, they vary with other coverage (e.g. partial repairs to the track, etc.)

More likely they’ve had more claims recently! $50 less could have helped with this too

They are one in the same, Lockton is the middleman, RLI underwrites for both. Most likely RLI has had some losses at Watkins recently.

If you do lots of track days or have a high $$$ car, check out:

https://opentrack.com/

Enjoy the Glen, be safe.

My last Lockton purchase from earlier this year was NOT underwritten by RLI, FWIW.

York and Aix are in the Lockton policy.

I've been using "On Track Insurance" for a couple of years now. I find them to be the least expensive. They also give a discount if you want to cover three or more events. I'm not sure about the coverage details though.

Open Track is surprisingly affordable. Unlimited track events for a year and adding a second car is only $150. It was much more affordable than Lockton for covering all of Potomac's events.

The proof is in the pudding. Namely, how well do they handle claims. Insurance that hassles claims is worthless no matter how cheap. When I had a major claim, Lockton/RLI handled with minimum fuss.

We had a member with a claim last year, I was pleased to see how well the process worked AND he still uses them because they didn’t jack his rate. Referring to Open Track, who I have been using for years.
