The acrobatic planes flying around over Shenandoah Circuit at the PCAP event a few weeks ago were very cool, and distracting. I keep wanting to look at them instead of the track . I love acrobatic planes so I was probably much more distracted than others!

Love the Invasion paint scheme! I think we saw that bad boy over the Shenandoah DE a few weeks ago, right?

The five mile rule applies to all airports, but since the Summit Point airport is not in the Airways Facilities Directory or on any sectional charts, there might be some leeway in this particular case.

BTW, the guidance documents are nebulous because the FAA and the model aircraft folks agreed that it was better that way back when it was set up. With the proliferation of UAS, this informal agreement may be on its way out, because there are folks who can't/won't abide by them.

What would it take to add some infrared capability to the camera so that it could pick out the deer through the tree leaves??

Yeah I was one of them. My buddie's grass strip is just across the RR tracks from SP and the final approach to the strip goes right over the SP Main. I cringed every time we went over knowing how distracting it might be to the folks on the track but we had to get lined up for the bombing runs.

Second pic is the Pappy Parker RCES-1 (rubber chicken ejection system). I got beat out by another buddy who was an A-10 pilot.....go figure.

^ Sweet. I'd love to see the planes sometime (other than through my windshield!). I admired them while driving around the Hook on Shenandoah. Luckily I know I can lock in a steering angle at the beginning and have a few seconds to look up and around

That's a great idea. Tony, I'm sure you have a spare dSLR body or two you can convert to infrared.

Converted DSLR's are not sensitive enough for proper thermal imaging. But in the meantime.....Kurt, can you see if your quad can lift a DSLR?

Dang, did not realize that FATT wreck was one of us. No one has mentioned injuries, so hopefully the drive and passenger were both okay. Hope the car isn't a write-off, as I know he put a lot into it last year.
