Default Insurance Cut a Check

The insurance adjuster came by the shop this morning and cut a check. I am relieved that they are covering the aftermarket RUF bumper ($1,800, ouch!) They'll do a 4-wheel alignment afterwards too.

I guess this is the best time to get a third radiator installed since the bumper will be off the car. If I time it right I can save some money (get the third radiator installed at the shop before the car goes to the bodyshop.)

My question is: since I don't take the car to the track (I've only taken it once) is it worth it for me to get a third radiator? How much does the third radiator kit run and what's the best place to get it?

Thanks guys.

It will be worth it when you eventually sell the car, and the buyer wants to drive it the way the manufacturer intended

So.. boxster S had the third radiator and the 996 didn't? Odd. If you don't track the car and you never experience "overheating" in the summer, I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, I'd rather have the motorsports oiling kit than the radiator

Had a vaguely similar event with my 911 a couple of years ago..

Off to work in the morning like 0600 > winter so its dark outside > > down a fairly heavily traveled road > Drainsville Road, Herndon, VA .. 911 purring along at 40mph [amybe 45] ... this large dog comes outof nowhere... there is a schoolbus to my left > the dog and a subdivision sign to my right ..

I hit the brakes > but no joy > I hit that dog and launched it like an NFL punter > I could have done a drastic hard right and hit the curb> totaled the front end of my 911 > but I don't swerve for animals... killed that dog deader than hell...

I back up into the subdivision and wait.. couple of minutes later I hear this woman walking down the wakl-path calling for her dog. > hey lady . dog-gone...

Sort of felt bad about "doing her dog" > but what kind of moron lets her dog run loose next to a major 40-45mph road? ..

Dog took out my drivers side fog light...

Ha! I know, I know. I do intend to take the car to the track more -- but I will take baby steps. I'll do a couple of DE's this year and then go from there.

I talked to Charlie at Intersport and agree that now is the time to do it. He said since the bumper and right radiator would be off anyways we can save some money in labor costs if we do it now rather than later. Now all I have to do is find a good price on the third radiator kit.

I would have to ask does a market for someone who drives a CAB and tracks it even exist? Most people in a car capable of 140+mph want a steel roof over their head, not canvas. I know there is at least one couple in a 997S cab out there, but not too many others. On the plus side, it would remove any "poseur" status of having the gaping hole in the airdam and NOT having a radiator. To each his own. Show up pics when she's all fixed up

Ryan tracks his 996TT cab and was pretty damn fast in it. Guys in F1 cars don't have a steel roof over their head and they seem to do OK.

Nine96 and Vu have cabs and seem to enjoy (at least) trying to go fast. Plenty of Chicksters out there too.
