Default AC Repair

Contemplating removing the AC from my car. Every spring it takes $$ to get it going and it never worked great even after the conversion. Maybe I am taking it to the wrong place. Any recommendations on where I can have the AC looked at before I decide to chuck it.

Thanks,

Chris

Have you tried Autobahn? I know they work on AC. They recharged mine after my condenser was damaged.

Good luck getting the A/C in an '89 working in a manner that is acceptable by today's standards. The only real way to do that is to swap out with an aftermarket system.

Before removing mine >10 years ago, I contemplated adding a third condenser (which works great in less humid environments, I'm told). But if you're going to do that, you need to put in more modern hoses that won't slowly leak refrigerant (that should save you from the annual costs). Also, it just doesn't blow as cold without R12 for which it was designed.

Chris, gave up mine, in a black interior, years ago due to leaks somewhere in the miles of tubing!

I am going to put the belt back on and see what happens. If it costs more than $200 to get going I am going to take the compressor and mount off. Will try to mothball the rest.
