Exhaust shop recommendation - not for Pcar
Well, my pickemuptruck has developed a hole in the muffler (and a few other holes in the outer skin) so need to have it replaced. Rest of the systems seems to be in good shape.
Any recommendations in MoCo or NoVA? I searched the archives but seems others asked without replies. Thanks, Jerome

Is DIY a possibility? Pickup truck is high enough you may not even need to lift it. Should be all bolt-on connections. And at only 14 years old, the fasteners may not be totally rusted together (and if they are, remove with a grinding wheel).

I didn't think too much about DIY. I'll have to look again but seem to think everything was welded from resonator outlet to exhaust tip. If there's a connection before the muffler looks like muffler-to-tip options are available (and relatively cheap). Thanks for the suggestion.

P/u mufflers are pretty easy to DIY. lots of aftermarket options (summit racing, jegs, etc). usually just cut the old one off and clamp the new one on.

I took a peak under the truck again. There is a connection upstream, and searching on-line some companies sell the muffler and tailpipe as a single unit. Looks like no cutting required unless the rusted bolts give me a real hassle. I think this will be DIY afterall. Thanks for all of the advice...

Exhaust bolts are made from pure highly compressed cuss words. Any attempts to disturb them causes the words to release.

Looks like the muffler assembly attaches with a v clamp, take a look. If so order a new clamp and check the rear hangers. Looks straightforward. (Famous last words)

Thanks. Yes, V-band clamp between the resonator and muffler. Soaked with Liq Wrench last night to loosen up the rust and compressed cuss words. Have ordered replacement clamp and bolts so worst case I cut the clamp off.
Local Advance Auto has a muffler and tailpipe in-stock so can pick up rather than shipping.
