Default Air Box Repair?

The air box on the Targa broke where at a clip latch point. Anyone have a reliable repair method? Skimming through Dorkiphus, RennLisp and Pelican did not turn up much. I saw where one person found a mirror clip at Home Depot that they bolted to the box, but having nuts and washers on the side beyond the filter does not seem optimal to me.

Any hints are appreciated.

The plastic piece molded into the air box broke off and is long gone. I need to install a substitute. Found a thread on one of the other P-car sites where a guy attached a 'mirror clip' from home depot to the air box w/ 2 screws. The wire clip hooks one it and can then be snapped closed.

Just returned from a Advanced Auto parts and HD trip. I got some JB Weld, but it's not the strongest one specifically for plastic, as that version takes 15 hours to set. The version I bought tonight sets in 15 minutes, but has about 60% of the bind strength of the longer-setting material. I guess I can try it and if locking the clip pulls it off I'll need to resort to short bolts.

No photos. But below is an image from the Rennlisp thread:

Gotcha

If it comes to it https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/113726...SABEgLwLPD_BwE

I’d try a piece of angle and a couple rivets

Thanks, Chris -- Internet lore said these boxes have been NLA for several years. I went with the flow and did not due my own check. Thank you for looking it up.

I’ll take a swing at fixing it if you want, it’s already broke right?

I bought a big picture hanging parts set at HD last night, just to get two of the mirror clamps -- HD did not have any in small packs. I will try adhering it with JB weld and see if it has enough shear resistance to stay in place when clamped. Rivets are a great idea over screws. If the JB Weld fails I may be adding a rivet gun to my toolbox.

Although it will look worse, I'd rivet from the inside out for 2 reasons: (1) flatter on the inside where the air and filter are, and (2) stronger hold with the expanded part of the rivet in the metal clip instead of the plastic air box.

Good luck with the fix. Photos of the fixed air box, please!

Slip a washer over the (un) expanded end of the rivet before seating it?
