Default Adding a tire rack to a trailer?

I am still hunting for an open trailer. I had been looking for an open aluminum with a rack for 2 sets of tires, but that is looking too much like a Goldilocks objective.

If I expand my search to trailers that don’t have a tire rack (yet), I have more options. While Trailex offers a tire rack separate from a trailer, what other options do I have?

Whether I get a steelie or aluminum trailer without the rack, what would I need to buy? Who knows how to weld and/or assemble a rack- and is willing or able to be persuaded (flexible on compensation)?

Difference in price between steel and Trailex will buy a lot of track time... Choose your tow vehicle first, and if it will easily tow car and steel, I'd go steel (I've had both). If you need to pull the trailer around in your LEVEL driveway by yourself, consider Trailex more.

I picked up the Touareg a few months ago. 7700#capacity. I like the idea of aluminum, but can’t find one with the features and price. I was thinking of adding video and data acquisition to the car if I go steel, maximizing my Track time.

Adding a tire rack to a steel trailer is simple and the materials are not expensive. Good basic welding and steel fabrication skills are all that is needed. I have made a few from basic to lux. I can cut and weld up a solid standard rack in a day. I am not all that flexible on compensation

Trailex tire rack is the only alum version that clearly works well. The rack is well designed & sturdy, and attaches via a T-bolt system that Trailex uses to assemble their trailers. I'm not aware of any other OTS alum tire rack that is dependable. There are others who have attempted to install custom built alum racks on their alum trailers, with less than ideal results.

I have an aluminum trailer and struggled with the same challenge. I finally decided on a PitPosse rack and fabbed it onto my trailer. There were many challenges with it but my goal was to have as much adjustability available while having an inkling of security. Have been pretty happy with it.
