Prayers and wishes for a speedy & safe recovery.

WTOP tried to report this during my commute to work this morning, and referred to him as Michael Shu-shi-mer....

Saw this in the paper this morning. Seems like a real fluke accident.

Don't know the details about Schumi but rocks are really scary when you're ridding the backcounty especially early in the season. An invisible boulder took me down once. Peeled the bottom of my board like an orange and violently sent me toppling head over heels down the mountain. If my head would have hit.....I'd be in trouble.

yeah, lots die skiing, but what I read this morning made it sound like he may have been doing more x-country than downhill. Not 100% sure though. He was supposedly conscious afterwards and initially seemed to check out okay. Guess there was either swelling or internal bleeding that then put him in a coma.

The link Rob posted on the F1 Spoiler thread outlines the treatment of the injury. Basically, they need to keep him under light anesthesia [aka induced coma] to tolerate the intubation that provides high oxygenation needed while the inter cranial inflammation subsides. Its normal that he was conscious immediately after the injury - before the swelling kicked in.

He was downhill skiing in back country - off marked trails. His 14 year-old son was with him and called in the medics.

Fixed to attribute the correct source to his esteemed Roundelness

Check my post in the F1 Spoiler thread for comments from the F1 doc regarding remaining lucid until pressure develops. I read he was essentially between groomed trails, but that there were no trees where he was. I assume this means that he was above the tree line hunting powder.
