i think dave's quote is the perfect statement designed to start riots on the vacuum tube boards... it's a bit like yelling "porsches suck" on rennlist

Same here... I bought their CAV-50 integrated ~7 years ago. Thought about upgrading but their Premier line is just out of my reach.

Peter,

Was looking at that table (good bang for the buck).....what are your thoughts? Read some reviews where the motor has trouble keeping a steady RPM, to the point of being audible. Other than that, it apperas to be a very good table out of the box, and can be a great table w/ some tweaks.

Heh -- the Premier line is quite a bit more than 'just out of MY reach'...

Damn this thread makes me feel inadequate.... like going and hanging out at the CGT forum on rennlist.

Yeah, I can hang

Everything Conrad Johnson makes is a work of art. But I cant fathum spending that much on just my amplification. Speakers maybe.

Yeah, I am out of my league here. I don't even know enough that a compliment of Charlie would be "meaningful." Looks nice is about all I can say (it does).

There's just something special about an audio system that you can't turn on during the summer because the AC can't handle the heat load.

Charlie,
My only tweak was gluing the stylus to the cartridge (removable/replaceable stylus = loss of information at the junction). Otherwise I use it "out of the box" and love it. Let me know when you get to the DC area, and you can see for yourself.

A bit more progress:

Chris (Jazzbass) helped (read built) the cabinet over thanksgiving break. Nice hard maple to support the 60+ pounds. A little stain and a few coats of poly and she's done. Just finished installing the components and wiring the RCA jacks:

I wanted to paint the Al plate, but Chris mentioned a brushed look would look good with the light maple cabinet...I agreee:

Here it is pretty much as it will look when complete, minus a few knobs and the 2 power transformers (currently in surgery):

And dog:

Just need to wire it up and cross fingers
