Default snakes

Got home from a nice dinner at Cava, was upstairs reading the mail, when there was a scream, followed by "Bob, get down here." Angela came flying up the basement stairs.

"Whut?"

"There's a snake."

I go downstairs, looking for a snake. I don't see no snake. "Where" I holler.

"By the exercise equipment."

Sure enough, there is a snake. Probably 5" long, 1/4" in diameter maybe. I pick it up, and toss it out the basement door. "Snake's all gone now."

"Did you kill it?"

My first mistake. "No", I said.

"Why not?"

Well, now that's a stumper. I figure live and let live, mostly, and certainly for itsy bitsy snakes.

Was I wrong? Apparently. Do snakes nest?

and whisper sweet nothings in your ear while you sleep, lol. ok, well maybe dont tell her that. Well as long as it wasnt a pointy head one you should be fine. Most snakes we had in the sticks growing up did alot more good then harm ... unless it was a little brown pointy head one. you'd know that one when you see it.

I hear you about mice and whatever but in my book a good snake is a dead snake. I find a new ~4-5' long skins every spring and it freaks me out.

From your description it sounds like it was a baby snake. There might be more than one....

Probably best to stay away from the exercise equipment.

Colors or pattern on it? Were the eyes solid pupils or cat like?

pretty drab, as I recall. Didn't notice it's little eyes, wasn't that close, and frankly, wasn't looking

The above story is really the sequel to a story that happened probably 15 years ago. I'm at work and I get a phone call - I answer the phone, and hear deep breathing, followed by the word, "snake". Fortunately, I recognize the caller's voice - it's Angela.

What snake? sez me.

Angela: Snake. In the garden. Bit Gumbo (the german shep). Is it poisonous?

Bob: Nooooo, it's not poisonous.

3 second pause.

Angela: How do you know?

busted.

I wont let my wife kill spiders or snakes. They are an important part in the cycle of life. The problem is now she wont even kill a stink bug.

hahaha, that's funny. i found a baby copperhead in a window well a few months ago. the kids and i wanted to kill it, thinking copperheads are bad to have around. wife would not allow it. she made an impromptu escape ramp for it out of a broken stick to facilitate its escape.

probably for the best, as even if i'd hit its tiny little head with my 9mm hollow point the ricochet would likely have taken out my basement window.
