Rick, this car is not for me, it is for my brother. But you could say that the Pcar bug has bitten the family twice in the same year. I am always game for a 2nd early model longhood if the right car comes along and the disposable cash quotient increases, that isn't the case at the moment.

He likes my car, likes the resale ability and the joy of ownership. Not just your Honda or Toyota commuter. he really doesn't drive many miles either. his fiancee has a strong car for any long trips they might need to make, not that the 911 can't do that.

I know you guys always have your eyes out for a good deal. So, any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
William

i think that my brother is looking at the one is Bethesda. He is also looking at the one out in Omaha that is on Pelican. The 78 SC with 101k on it. The Omaha car looks like a pretty strong car to me and priced within the market.

Hoping to have it squared away first of the week. PPI guy seems to be closed today. Not that anyone here is going out to Omaha anytime soon, but "Dibs."

As for the Bethesda 911, it's certainly an option. But I won't be able to check it out for at least another 10 days or so.

You might consider some of the slight differences between the 78 and the 81 3.0 engine. Having just had a backfire yesterday which blew out my airbox(no pop off valve installed--and I even have one in the garage), i have heard that the 80-83 engines may have had a little less tendency to backfire. At the same time the 78 doesnt have an O2 sensor, which I believe the 81 does...just food for thought...I have been meaning to go look at the 81 sc myself, but havent had the chance and as am out of the area until the end of march, wont be able to before you can..r/tito

Here's a question. I got some leakdown and compression numbers on the 1978 911sc. Not very promising. The car has 102k miles. Offered at $9900
Cyl - Comp - leakdown
1 - 145 - 10%
2 - 145 - 12%
3 - 140 - 16%
4 - 150 - 10%
5 - 150 - 10%
6 - 130 - 60%

Is this a rebuild just waiting to happen?

Thanks. I'm thinking this is a passer. One of those too good to be true options.

There are a few options in the DC area, and I'm really scratching out for a good deal. My thought process, however, is that if a car has been on the market for more than a week or two, there must be something wrong with the car, b/c the Dorkiphus gurus would have snatched a good deal up in that time frame.

possibly some dorkis would snatch it up, unless they already had their share and are just not looking for anymore

post the ones you are considering here and we may be able to discuss (or tear apart) some of them... the more opinions, the merrier, and some of us may have seen the cars in person too.

Working off my spreadsheet (note I dont mind traveling under 1200 miles). I'd also like to keep it under 12k, if at all possible.
