I appreciate your thoughts. I owned a 1988 944 NA with the extra 10 hp several years ago so I appreciate the difference with the 1988 model year version. I believe the 924 SE is a rare bird.

I haven't seen many 1988 924s for sale. One thing that I've noticed with the 924S model is that just about every car I've seen would need water pump, timing belt, tires and brakes. At least with the early 924 the timing belt would be less expensive.

I've been warned about non-running 931s!

I actually looked at one in Baltimore. My wife noticed that the car was on jack stands, turned around and got back in the car.

She's in the "why don't you just get a 944 camp" to begin with.

But at $650 it seems that the buyer did OK!

The 88 44 started off about 154 lbs heavier than the 88 24. The 88 24 SE deletes the sunroof, a/c, power steering, passenger side mirror and swaps leather/vinyl seats for cloth. The SE further adds the M030 suspension. I have no idea what the final weight of the 88 24 SE was because the factory did not keep good records for this model but it is a very different experience from your 88 44. It is still a 924 with all of the related issues so yes timing belt, water pump etc. are known problems. One other thing it only came in black, so if you don’t like black cars……..

Best of luck in your search and please post pictures when you find the one!

The SE also had a commemorative "coin", as well as 7x15 phone dials in the rear to complement the 6x15s up front. Also manual windows. Driver side mirror was from the golf/rabbit, not a flag mirror like the rest of the line.

Here's a 1988 924 SE for only $17,888. Might be a bit high and I'm not a big fan of the aftermarket reflector panels.

The search continues.

Fascinating. The have a photo of the sunroof cover (the bag to put the sunroof in), but none of the engine compartment...

The assumption is that the engine is there and it looks like a 924s engine.

That car was linked to on Bring a Trailer too. Lots of discussion there too. Yes, unlikely to sell at that price.. but you can ask whatever you want... need to know what it takes to get it "sold" though.

That is the nicest looking 924 (assuming engine looks as good) that I have ever seen.
Problem I see is that you will have to pay a premium for low miles and rarity - you will not want to put miles on it.
