Fitbit is kaput!
My trusty Fitbit Ionic has bought the farm. So I’m looking for input from the Dorkiphus collective on choices in fitness watches/trackers.
Looking for the usual heart rate, sleep, distance, exercise trackers. But interested in other options too. Oh, and obviously a watch! Only real limitation is the supporting app. has to be compatible w/my iPad and/or iPhone.

garmin Fenix or Vivoactiv models. we have both. they are awesome. great integration with phone, lots of functions, easy to use, battery on the Fenix lasts 7-10 days. vivoactive has touch screen so battery lasts 5-6 days.

Apple Watch? I mean, it does all you want from a tracker, and more. I have an iPhone, but I am too married to my mechanical movement watches to give them up.
I use a Fitbit Inspire, and they make a version that does heartrate. I've beaten on this thing, including having do an unintended stint as a chew toy for my dog. It has more than served my needs, and allows me to wear a regular wrist watch with out looking too much like the 80's. So, go with another Fitbit, or just bite the bullet and go for the Apple Watch. Frankly, if the Tag Heuer smartwatch was truly compatible with the iPhone, I'd get one of those. Elric42 |

Another vote for the Garmin vioactive hr. Mine has been bulletproof for years. Got it when it first came out. They are ok to good a out updating it. Easy integration with my phone, computers , power meters, and other wireless stuff.
Good activity tracking and recording accuracy and good battery life. Active GPS tracking takes a bit of battery life from it but not much. Hard to damage or kill. It is battle scared living on my arm as a mechanic and active person having been to 130 feet underwater (not recommended, I kept forgetting to take it off) Underground caving getting banged around, wet and muddy. I toss it on the charger once every few days before bed and have not had it die once in all the years. I have never had even a regular watch survive day to day use this long. Replaced the battery a couple years ago. It was cheap and not hard to do.

Suunto watches have alot of functions (but I'm not an expert on their USB/ connect to your computer ones). I do like the fact they are still primarily watches and still look like a watch not a very small television.

Been researching these for my wife's birthday. We've had fitbits for years, but she's switching to the Garmin Venu. 7 day battery life and more controls. She contemplated the Apple watch, but it only has a battery that lasts a day and frankly isn't a fitness tracker. It defeats all the sleep functions when you have to have it on the charger overnight.

I won't downplay the advantages of the Fitbit, but wanted to point out one more thing to consider. The Garman Vivoactive and the latest version of Apple Watch (version 5) have a second layer to the screen that is ultra-low-power so they can be always-on (some of the Android watches have this too). Also both my v4 Apple Watch and my wife's v5 last over 2 days between charges, so don't need to be charged EVERY night, although it's a good habit.

Battery life is a big deal. Having to charge a watch every night, or even every other night would not be acceptable to me. My Garmin 5s goes 6-8 days. Never understood why the apple stuff can't get there.

I gave up on the fitbit because of work but the last few months at home I've been wearing it again. Actually like the simple alta hr. Clock, steps, exercise time... not much else. I syn it once in a while to check on the sleep, still sucks, and see my resting hr, hopefully keeps going down. Only gripe is the band doesnt last that long, aftermarket 3 pack for cheap solved that. Battery lasts at least a few days, maybe about a week.
I use strava for exercise when I want to see where I was or how far... KISS works for me.
