I agree with Dennis scca is definitely one of the lower track time but also cheaper race groups. When I raced with scca it was only a 2 day event (pros and cons with that) but we started on Saturday straight into qualifying and a race in the afternoon. Then on Sunday it was one race and done, that was it. Really wasn't a huge fan of that considering I had only done 2 on track events before starting to race(but not complaining).

This could all be different now but I doubt its changed much.

This brings me back to my original question to yourself. Who do you want to race with?

One reason I like racing with PCA is because that's where all the people I consider "friends" are (even Hunt ). That was another thing about scca. I met a few people but it wasn't like pca where a know over half the paddock.

Please stop all talks of racing because all the crazy thoughts of exploring starting an AER team is filling my head again.

Compared to NASA and SCCA, PCA gives you a lot of track time. However, unlike the other two, you kiss your entry fee goodbye as soon as you sign up.

Ummm... not true Nader, as least not with the Summit Race, though every race chair makes their own rules.

I looked at that a few times but somehow it felt TGTBT.

And as with The Boy, I think I would be looking at Ryan’s taillights (if only briefly, then waiting to see his headlights again sometime later...) if we were in the same class. I have much to learn.

The BMW bang-fer-buck is solid. I am looking at Spec Boxster, vintage, and SP3 cars at the moment. I would like to be in a class large enough to race against *somebody* in the group, and hopefully with some class and race craft. Wasn’t Ryan usually either in a class by himself or with 1 other driver?

That is Mark Maguires car. Good car/Good driver. Yea, letter classes in PCA are dead. Gone from 17 H cars in a race 5 years ago, to 2 in a race if I'm lucky. If interested in PCA look at SPC, SPB, 911 Cup, GTB1($$$), or the fofo classes. SP997 could be fun, but mainly west coast group. Of course I always welcome cars to H

Why do you think the cars from the letter classes have evaporated?

I know this is not a popular opinion, but I would not buy a car for racing vintage PCA class, because it is a run what you brung class. The disparity between cars is too great since the only objective is to bring out the old "air-cooled" race cars. You will find someone to race against, but the rules (or lack of them) are such that the car is a more important factor than a driver.

I still say Spec Cayman is the way to go for PCA. BTW, I saw a 996 GT3 on Racing Junk with both PCA and NASA log books for less than $50K. Didn't look closely enough to see how old the ad was. It is a J car in PCA which has no more cars left in it, but you could run NASA GTS.

Spec classes.
Too many classes.
PCA's lack of ability to create a level playing ground.

For instance in E class you must have a well prepared 911 to have a chance at winning. The Boxster is the other car in the class but has never been competitive. Why? It is a modern car with ABS brakes, power steering, coil over suspension. It should blow away an old 911. They waited until last year to finally recognize it wasn't competitive so they allowed a 100lb weight loss. Way overdue. 996's vs Cayman's with PDK and DFI motors in GTB1. They didn't adjust the rules quick enough to make the 996 competitive so all the 996's are gone except one. I think PCA brass needs to stay ahead of the game when a newer better car is introduced to a class or make power to weight adjustments quicker than they have in the past.
