Default HELP: 911 rocker arm stiffness?

I'm down at a Scott's shop in Richmond working on my car. Getting it buttoned up before I haul it back to MD,

I'm also helping him put another friends (Matt) car back together. Matts 2.7L motor has gone through a full rebuild done by two different guys (one did bottom end, one did the heads). It has not run yet. I volunteered to adjust the valves before the motor goes back into the car. Some of the rockers are *HELLA* stiff. If I back the elephant foot screw all the way out it takes a TON of force to rock the rocker back and forth. As in, I can push the motor across the floor on the stand before they move. 50#? W/ a run in engine they move effortlessly. When I rebuilt my motor I don't recall them being ANYWHERE near that hard to move even w/ assebmbly lube in them. I'm wondering if the shop did something wrong. I'm trying to pull one of the rocker shafts to inspect and thought to post here for feedback while I'm working on that... Thoughts?

Is they any space on the sides? There are two shaft widths. Try loosening the ends and see if they free up. If so, are they tight on the shaft or were they being pinched?

Well, I got one rocker shaft out. Its impossibly tight on the rocker. Something is out of spec. The bushing looks good w/ zero wear. I'm wondering if these were rebushed and not bored/honed/etc to size. The fact I can see cross hatching on the bushing makes me wonder even more if its rebushed. The saga continues...

VG, I tried loosing the bolt first thing. Doing that, moving the rocker moves the shaft in the cam box. Thats why I decided to pull one out.

So far its the exhausts that are the problem. I didn't notice anything on #1, but #6 is tight. Since we'll have to pull the oil cooler to get that one out I decided to adjust the rest of the valves. So going to #2 the exh rocker was even worse than #6. I'm about to spin the motor and check the remaining ones.

Nope, they are all tight I & E. Maybe I got lucky on #1. Going to have to send the rockers out to be honed or something.

Who hammered them together? That should have been called and corrected during initial assembly.

20 min and done.

Stephen,
Please say "Hi" to Scott for me! Good luck with those rockers.
