Default September 26-27, 2020 - MBCA|GWS on Shenandoah

MBCA|GWS is back for a Full Weekend in 2020 (up from 3 years of single day events)

I know some of you on here have come and driven and/or instructed before, and I would appreciate the continued support.

Instructors can self tech, get lunch, and (if I get enough bodies) will be aiming for 1:1 student/instructor ratio

Thanks everyone

Few weeks out, still on schedule. Monitoring other clubs' COVID procedures, but rest assured we will put on a safe event

Event is still a go -- anyone who can instruct or wishes to attend, the more the merrier.

Doing in-car and lead follow for instructed groups

More details in the event packet posted on MSReg

Just as a point of reference, I did lead follow instruction on Shenandoah with Track Daze this past weekend, and it went amazingly well. My student progressed quickly and safely, and end of the event very much improved.

I wish PCA-P would adopt this, as I’m just not comfortable doing in-car instruction during the pandemic.

Thanks for the point of reference -- if you'd be willing to help out instructing, I'd sure appreciate it.

Lead/Follow or as FATT call it Pace/Chase CAN be done well upto a point. Finer details like brake application, steering input, weight transfer, eyes up etc. are very difficult to critique from the Chase car. It may have a place with learning the track and getting used to being fairly close to others as well as anticipating and modulating speed to avoid braking and concertina effect in corners.

Agreed, it has its limitations for sure, but the reality right now is that we have Instructors and Students who will not share a vehicle with anyone.

How this impacts students down the road (i.e. what bad habits we need to undo) as a reuslt of lead-follow remains to be seen.

we do in-car and lead/follow in SCCA.

novice gets in-car as long as we have enough instructors willing to do it.

intermediate gets lead/follow on a request basis. instructors who don't want to get in a car with a student and extra instructors from novice fill this duty.

lead/follow definitely not the same quality as in-car, but it is a tool in the tool box that instructors need to understand how to use effectively. it should be used regularly regardless of the Pandemic.

there was a Ross B webinar back in march about the use of lead/follow. lots of instructors participated. i was shocked at how many instructors really had no clue what it was or how to do it. then there was the group that refused to do it because "it would put too much wear and tear on there car".

Thanks for the insight as to what SCCA is doing. I agree -- it has its use, and for those who will not share a car, it at least gets people on track rather than nothing
