If you imagined the car had another 200HP, it would look like the perfect entry if you were drifting..

Scott,

I was there on Sat and we spoke briefly in the paddock as I was admirring your 914. I was coming up behind you in T9 when you dropped a wheel on track out and had a bit of a "moment".

You recovered nicely and found time to give me a point by before the bridge!

Yes, it was cold as balls.......there was even ice you straddled just before turn in for T10 and the outside of T3 on the crest before the chute. =:0

You got your story all wrong. Like Fritz said, just tell people you executed the perfect drift and just happened to catch it on film!

I dunno -- looks like you were stopping with plenty of room to spare. Try carrying a little more speed into the braking zone next time, and getting on a binders a little later.

My car looked like that mid-spin more than a couple of years ago. My instructor had just told me I was ready for promotion, then I was able to change his mind...

Lesson learned:
  • take the chute fast, full on the gas in 4th to keep the car stable (check)
  • threshold brake before turn 5 (check)
  • BEFORE braking, allow the car to settle (oops).

Why not take a survey and see how many of us have ended up in that infield at least once

Peter

Too bad the photo is not clearer because you look cool there. I think your choice of car to learn in is pure genius!
Better to do what you did than to lift while still turning tracking out of 4. That is where cars become parts when people lift before straightening the wheel. The infield didn't hut much, did it?

You need to spend some time on the Skidpad... Even though the picture is a bit out of focus, you can definitely tell that you're looking to your right (the direction the car is traveling), which just happens to be the infield.. This is natural, however, after a little time on the skidpad, you'll get the "look where you want the car to go, not where it's going..." In other words, if you look at it, you're definitely going to hit it!

Looks like fun though!...

If you go into a corner too fast, and particularly if you could go straight off the track if necessary, don't turn until you have slowed the car down enough to make the turn. Usually, you can stay on the track but will, of course, miss the apex and screw up your lap time. If you were really going too fast, then you can drive straight off rather than slide off sideways.
