Any updates/progress reports about the case?

Is it required that you remove the head studs to have the case work done?

It looks like you have a case with just one intermediate shaft bearing, the thrust bearing. Any talk about cutting the case for the other bearing? Necessary? As is is OK?

Are you going to/able to reuse the intermediate shaft assembly and chains?

Same questions about the oil pump ...

I checked on the case the other day at intersport and they have not started it yet. They told me up front that they were terribly busy around the club racing season so I didnt expect to have it back until at least until the end of october. I was planning on reinstalling new OEM headstuds, not going to put any race car stuff in there or anything like that. I will be reusing the intermediate shaft assembly but replacing all chains and ramps. I have not seen a significant argument for upgrading the oil pump for just a normal "street" engine so i am likely going to stick with the same one. My goal is to return it to as OEM spec as possible with some of the oiling mods and call it a day. I have to draw the line somewhere.

Question

Oh, I forgot to ask about the oil bypass modification. From what I've seen, it just looks like a different spring (longer), a guide for the spring and a different screw plug. Do you know anything about this mod?

oil bypass mod starts at about 2.55:

Just what I have read online... I am trusting Intersport to steer me in the right direction.

A month later and unfortunately no case yet... I was in the other day and there were a few ahead of me. I took some time to order up a few bits once I get it back. Sourced all new steel OEM headstuds from porsche(see photo), also got new nuts for the studs and rod bolts and nuts.

Any input on bearings? Lots of talk over on pelican regarding the poor quality of the OE supplied glyco bearings... Happy to hear any input anyone has!

Casey

I ordered GT3 color coded bearings sourced via the motherland for my mains and rods. I too saw those threads and I had some concern. From what I have heard the factory bearings goo through additional QC after being sourced form Glyco and then once passed get the Porsche approval. I would talk one of the known engine builders are they can source factory bearings. I know Steve W and Henry S. can get these. Im sure EBS can as well. Will be more $$ but no worries about eating a bearing. I know my bearings were sourced through Wrightwood Racing from Germany by Henry S. for me. In the end they cost about $1500 for the mains, rods, and intermediate GT3 bearings .. IIRC.

From what I read the issue was with glyco sourced bearings and not the OEM porsche speced glyco bearings.

I saw that the "GT3" bearings only fit 3.0 and higher cranks/cases... is this the case?

You are correct. Only 3.0 or larger. What I was trying to get at was instead of sourcing the bearings from say pelican or another larger parts dealer would be to get them from Porsche directly as those bearings have more QC rigors to go thorough after being supplied by glyco. Thats worth the extra $$ in my opinion. You could also buy a set of custom bearings from Jerry Woods but those are going to be $$$. IIRC your going to keep the engine fairly stock so its not worth the exta $$.

But if the engine is going to be put back together by a builder then I would have them blueprint/record everything so you know what the specs are on whats on the inside of the engine. Tons of measurements to take and machining to be done since your case is mag so the main bearings need to be checked and line bored if needed. Id venture to say alot of the issues on pelican were from extra clearance and glyco QC.
