Default 981 Replacement Brake Lines

Has anybody replaced their hard brake lines at the 981 caliper with stainless braided lines? I've heard several companies make kits which don't require you to removed the brake line bracket, but the only brand I've found is Spiegler which is quite pricy ($400).

I didn’t replace the hard lines but I did replace the fussy 10 mm bolt that holds the bracket with a small stud from Tarett. Makes manipulating the calipers much easier.

Same here. Haven't seen a need to switch out the lines to SS and with the stud it only takes a few seconds to remove the nut and pull up the bracket. Money on brakes will be better spent on the GT3/4 MC & Booster.

Thanks Jim and Mike. When I ordered the caliper studs I meant to order the bracket studs, too but the seem to have fallen out of my cart. Now the shipping is almost as much as the studs but I'm considering just buying some stainless threaded rod and using that.

Mike, how much of a difference did the GT3/4 MC make? I found my one weekend on the track that I had PLENTY of brake (using Ferodo 1.11 pads, stock rotors) and no fade in 25 minute sessions. I had to be careful coming into to SP turn 1 not to activate the anti-lock.

Much firmer brake pedal with greater ability to modulate the brake pressure. I used to constantly get into ABS and now it doesn't happen unless I want it to. The MC gives you a more robust unit and the booster has less boost pressure which firms up the pedal.

For the stud, it may be easier to find a longer bolt and just cut the head off. Mount with a dab of blue Loctite.

Indeed! The other benefit is that since the brake petal has much less travel, heel-toe is easier since the angle across the pedals doesn't vary as greatly.
