+1 to what Peter said. SSM Miata will teach you car control and maintaining momentum, and most affordable in terms of maintenance and tires. Always many other cars to race against. Talk to RP Performance and/or Chris Windsor, both have rentals for the SCCA Comp Drivers School. SSM is awesome Racing! Visit the paddock at an SCCA race weekend at Summit Point and look at those cars and also Spec Race Fords (Hagerman RacEngineering), a faster but more expensive spec race car.

Come out today and watch SSM race. Group 7 so somewhat later in the day (certainly after lunch). REALLY close racing!
